課程概述 |
This is a master-level, introductory course in Health Economics that is also open to qualified undergraduate students in other fields with basic knowledge in public health and health services research. The emphasis will be on acquiring a set of different frameworks within which to explain decision-making and service delivery in healthcare market. In this course, we will cover both demand and supply sides of the healthcare sector. We will also cover basic statistical tools for health economists as well as basic concepts of program evaluation that use economics or quantitative methods. |
課程目標 |
The objectives of this course are
(1) to develop an understanding of related economic concepts and frameworks related to decision-making in health care sector (demand side), (2) to describe the system of health care financing and delivery arrangements in the health care sector (supply side), and (3) to discuss current health care issues within health economics framework. |
課程要求 |
Students are expected to have read the assigned textbook chapters and required readings in detail before class. The instructor will provide lecture notes for each class. Students are required to complete two assignments during the semester. Students are also required to present an assigned journal article as an individual or group during the semester, depending on the class size. In preparing for the presentation, students are encouraged to discuss with the lecturer or other students in advance as needed. The midterm and final exams will be in class, close book. |
